Indian
Oil has announced 2600 Scholarships to students pursuing 10+2 , ITI,
Engineering, MBBS & MBA streams on merit-cum-means basis for
2014-15. A total of 2000 scholarships are offered for 10+/ITI students.
The proportionate distribution of scholarships will be state-wise, based
on the number of students who appeared for 10th Standard examination
during 2013-14.
For
Graduate and Post-Graduate studies, 600 scholarships are offered to
students pursuing professional courses (Engineering-300 Nos., MBBS-200
Nos. & MBA-100 Nos). The scholarships will be proportionately
distributed Zone-wise (North, South, East & West), based on the
number of students who appeared for 12th Standard examination during
2013-14.
The
Stream, duration for which scholarship will be awarded, minimum duration
of course, No. of Scholarships, Qualifying Examination, minimum
eligibility marks in qualifying examination for (i) General (ii)
SC/ST/OBC/Girls and (iii) PwDs and the Scholarship amount per month are
as follows.
(i)
10+/ITI: for 2 years- 2000 scholarships; Qualifying examination: 10th
with 65% (General), 60% (SC/ST/OBC/Girls), 50% (PwD); Scholarship amount
Rs.1000/- per month.
(ii) Engineering: For 4 years- 300 nos- 12th -65% -60%- 50%; Rs. 3000/- pm
(iii) MBBS: 4 years; 200 nos; 12th; 65%, 60%, 50%; Rs. 3000/- pm
(iv) MBA: 2 years; 100 nos; Graduation; 65%, 60%, 50%; Rs.3000/-p m
(ii) Engineering: For 4 years- 300 nos- 12th -65% -60%- 50%; Rs. 3000/- pm
(iii) MBBS: 4 years; 200 nos; 12th; 65%, 60%, 50%; Rs. 3000/- pm
(iv) MBA: 2 years; 100 nos; Graduation; 65%, 60%, 50%; Rs.3000/-p m
Students
pursuing full time/regular courses (not correspondence/ distance/ online
mode) in these streams & studying in Schools / Colleges /
Institutions recognized by MCI / AICTE / State Education Boards/State
Technical Education Boards / ICSE / ISC / CBSE only are eligible to
apply for the different streams.
10+/ITI :
For 10+, applicants should be bonafide students (full time / regular)
in 11th standard / 1st Year of Intermediate course or equivalent course
in 2014-15 to be eligible to apply. For ITI, bonafide students (full
time / regular) in 1st year of 2 years ITI course in 2014-15 are
eligible to apply.
Engineering
& MBBS: Bonafide students (full time/regular) in the first year of
Engineering/MBBS degree courses in 2014-15 (minimum 4 years’ duration
course) are eligible to apply.
MBA:
Bonafide students (full time/regular) in the first year Post graduate
course of minimum 2 years, in Business Administration/Management in
2014-15 are eligible to apply.
Gross
Joint annual income of the family of the student from all sources during
financial year 2013-14 should not exceed Rs. 1,00,000/-. However, in
case of tie, preference will be given to the students whose family
income (gross joint income from all sources in 2013-14) is upto Rs.
60,000/-. Any Affidavit submitted as Income Proof shall not be accepted.
Income certificate should be ones issued by appropriate civil
authorities of the State/UTs/Central Governments whose details have been
specified under the head ‘Submission of Documents by Applicants’.
Applicant
should not be below 15 years of age and should not above 30 years as on
01.07.2014. Persons born between 01.07.1984 and 01.07.1999 (both days
inclusive) are eligible to apply. However, there would be a relaxation
in the upper age limit by 3 years for OBC candidates, 5 years for SC/ST
candidates and 10 years for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs).
The marks
obtained in the qualifying examination making the students eligible to
seek admission in the respective first year of these courses will be
considered for selection. Percentage of marks obtained in qualifying
examination shall be calculated on total aggregate marks of all
subjects. In case of Graduates, percentage of marks obtained shall be
calculated on total aggregate of marks of all subjects for all the
academic years of graduation.
Normalization
of marks for all streams shall be done by using percentile method so as
to rationalize the variation of marks provided by different Education
Boards and Universities/Institutions. 49.5% scholarships are reserved
for various categories- SC(15%), ST(7.5%) & OBC (27%). Only those
listed in the Central Govt’s OBC list will be considered against OBC
quota. OBC candidates of State list but not covered by Central Govt’s
OBC list may apply against General Category. 25% of scholarships are
reserved for girl students and 10% of scholarships are reserved for
persons with Disabilities (PwDs) (minimum 40% disability as per
definition under Disabilities Act 1952) in each category/sub-category
and the reservations shall be maintained on overall All India Basis.

Applicants
will have to provide valid & active e-mail address & mobile
number in their online application form. They should keep on checking
their personal e-Mail / Mobile SMS, Portal of Administrator of the
Scheme at http://ioclscholar.sifyitest.com as well as on the website of IOCL www.iocl.com/Aboutus/Scholarships.aspx regularly for instructions specific for them from Administrator of the Scheme/IOCL.
Once the
online application is submitted by an applicant, the system will
generate a unique Registration Number. The applicants should note down
this number and also take a print out of this Online Registered
Application Form for future reference/correspondence. A message through
SMS on the mobile number given in the online application and an e-Mail
message on the e-mail address given in the online application will be
generated automatically as a token of confirmation of submission of
Online Application Form by an applicant.
All
applicants should submit printout of the online application duly signed,
along with the documents specified to IOC. The details of the
documents/forms etc. to be submitted by the applicants is given in the
website under Head ‘Submission of Documents by Applicants’. The detail
of documents to be submitted can be seen by individual applicant at the
bottom of the print out of their Registered Online Application Form.
The
printout along with the documents specified should be sent by Speed
Post or Registered Post only in a sealed cover, to reach ‘Sify
Technologies Limited (IOCL ESS I-Test Division), Plot No B 7,
Sector-132, Noida, Uttar Pradesh-201301, on or before 15.10.2014.
All the
documents to be submitted by applicants should be got attested from
Principal/Head of the institution where the student is studying or from a
Gazatted Officer or from a First Class Judicial Magistrate. Applicants
should get the grade (CGPA/GPA/SGPA/OGPA/CPI etc.) obtained converted
into percentage of marks as per approved formula of Academic
Board/Institution and should mention the formula used for conversion of
grade into percentage of marks. Applications with any invalid Caste
Certificate shall be considered against General Category. All applicants
are advised to have the savings bank account in their names (joint bank
account with parents/guardians in case applicant is minor) in any
branch of State Bank of India having Core Banking Facility and send
attested copies of bank documents as mentioned in ‘Submission of
Documents by Applicants’.
Wards of
the IOCL employees, its Joint Venture and Subsidiary companies and
Consultant managing the Scheme are not eligible to apply. Selection will
be based on merit and family’s income. The first instalment of the
scholarship for the selected students, shall be released for 12 months
by demand draft and subsequent Scholarship instalments shall be released
on six monthly basis through NEFT/Bank Transfer based on satisfactory
performance and other details provided by the Principal/Head of the
academic institution in the Feedback Form.
A
scholarship holder under this scheme will not hold any other scholarship
/ stipend / financial aid from any other source. There will be no
obligation on part of IOCL to provide employment to any Scholar at any
point of time. Those qualifying in the merit list of the particular
course (Top 10 in 10+ or Top 3 in graduate/post-graduate) will get a
lump sum Bonus Prize of Rs. 10,000/-. Toppers will be invited at IOCL’s
cost for receiving the amount.

SCERT,
Kerala, has invited applications for the Centrally Sponsored National
Means-Cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme for students of Kerala. Under this
scheme, MHRD, Government of India, proposes to award 100,000
scholarships to the gifted or meritorious students whose parental income
is not more than Rs 1,50,000/- per annum from all sources. Each State
/UT shall have fixed quota of scholarship which will be decided on the
basis of defined criteria. The
States/UTs will be conducting the test for selection of candidates for
the award of Means-cum-Merit Scholarships in the State/UT.
In
Kerala, the test for selection of students for the award of the
Means-cum-Merit Scholarship, is being conducted by the State Council for
Educational Research and Training, The test to be conducted on 2nd
November, 2014 will have two parts. Part I will be the Scholastic
Aptitude Test (SAT) and Part II will be the Mental Ability Test (MAT).
Each test will be of 90 minutes duration and carrying 90 objective type
questions, each carrying one mark. Children with disability will be
given 30 minutes extra time for each part. The Scholastic Aptitude Test
will have questions from Science, Social studies and Mathematics of the
standard of 8th Class or of lower classes.
The
Mental Ability Test will have 90 multiple-choice questions, testing
verbal and non-verbal meta-cognitive abilities like reasoning and
critical thinking. The questions in the test may be on analogy,
classification, numerical series, pattern perception, hidden figures
etc.
Applicant
should be studying in Class 8 during 2014-15 in a Government/Aided
School in Kerala State Syllabus. Applicant should have scored a minimum
of 55% marks in the annual examination of 2013-14 in Class 7. Parental
income should be less than Rs 1,50,000/- per annum from all sources.
Applicants in Kerala have to apply for the scholarship, online, latest
by 5 pm on 25th September, 2014, at the appropriate link at http://www.scert.kerala.gov.in/.
There is
no fee for applying for the NMSCE. After submitting the application and
ensuring that the information is correct, applicant should take a
printout of the online application and get it attested by the Head of
the Institution where the student is pursuing the course.
Applicant
should obtain and attach the original Income Certificate issued by the
Village Officer. A copy of Community Certificate in case of SC/ST
applicants and PH Certificate in cased of PH applicants (as applicable)
should also be attached to the completed printout. The application and
documents should reach ‘The Liaison Officer, NMMS Examination, SCERT,
Poojappura, Thiruvananthapuram-695012’ by 5 pm on 30th September, 2014.
A student
can avail only one Scholarship under any scheme. The awardees will be
asked to open Joint account with parents in State Bank of India, which
has core banking facility; SBI will ensure that their branches and its
associates SBI Indore, Patiala, Mysore, Hyderabad, Travancore,
Saurashtra, Bikaner and Jaipur will open account of such awardees
without any initial deposit/minimum deposit charges and will issue
ATM-cum- Debit Cards. The state will identify the awardees and hand over
the list of beneficiaries to SBI for payment of scholarship;
The
scholarship at the Secondary and higher Secondary stage or equivalent
Classes IX to XII is payable for a maximum period of four years for
studies in India only. No scholarship at this stage is payable for
studying diploma/certificate level courses.
For
continuing the scholarship in class X and XII the awardees should get
clear promotion from class IX to class X and from class XI to class XII
in the first attempt with 55% marks (relaxable by 5% for SC/ST). The
awardees must obtain a minimum of 60 per cent marks in Class X
(relaxable by 5% for SC/ST) exam or equivalent examination for
continuation of the scholarship at higher secondary stage.
Applicants
will get the facility to download their Hall ticket from the website
from 16th October 2014 onwards. At the time of selection for the award
of scholarship the candidate must have scored at least 55% marks or
equivalent grade in Class VIII examination. There will be 5 % relaxation
for SC/ST.

The Provisional Rank
list of General candidates and the results of service candidates who
have appeared for the Entrance Examination for admission to M.Sc.Nursing
2014 conducted on 17.08.2014 at Thiruvananthapuram has been published
by the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations.Reshmi R Nair from Kozhikkode secured the first rank in this Entrance Examination.
The Provisional Rank
list of General Quota candidates and the results of Service Quota
candidates will be available for reference in this office and on the
website www.cee-kerala.org. The Director of Medical Education will make
allotment and admissions as per the conditions laid down in the
Prospectus.
Dr Babu Sebastian has been appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor of MG
University. The Governor has signed the order regarding the
appointment.Presently, Dr Babu is the director of the State Institute of
Education Technology. He was a faculty member (Malayalam) of Saint
Thomas College, Pala.Dr P. Prasanna Kumar from Kerala University and Nanotechnology expert
Dr. Sabu Thomas were among the people considered for the post.Previous VC of MG University, Dr. A.V. George, was removed by former
Governor Sheila Dikshit in May on the grounds that he was not eligible
to hold the post.
